Each stem carries a single large, domed flower head composed of dozens of individual four-petalled florets in the most saturated, complex burnt orange — a colour that sits somewhere between terracotta, deep tangerine, and warm brick-red, with each petal marked by fine dark veining that radiates from a near-black centre and gives every floret the most extraordinary, almost hand-painted quality. In certain light the colour reads as a vivid, fiery orange; in others, it deepens to something closer to rust and dried autumn leaves. It is, in the truest sense, the colour of autumn at its most beautiful.
